Long post!
Class News!
Ahh... feeling so sick lately. Cured from a cold on Wednesday only to end up eating bad laksa that gave me a tummy ache on Friday. So annoying. Oh well. I hope everyone enjoyed the Children's Day Concert! It was alot of fun - even though many people couldn't guess which baby I was except for a few of those in my class raising their hands, hehe. Enjoy the balls! Squeeze them if you're angry! ^_^
In other news, I have lots to post today, since I've been ill and haven't had time to update. Lets see... we have a comic recommendation by Ashraf, the answer to the silver star question - where four of you managed to win. Enjoy!

Comic Recommendation by Ashraf
Title: Spider-man Adventures
Review: The comic is good because it does not have any bad words and it is so interesting because Spider-man meets the Fantastic Four! Then they were not friends with eachother but at the end they were still friends. The full story is inside the comic.
Where to get it: Any popular bookshop

Silver Star Question!
Question: What is the difference between an Aeroponics farm and a Hydroponics farm?
Answer: Both farms use water mixed with nutrients to grow the plants instead of soil. The aeroponics farm sprays this mixture of water and nutrients on the suspended (hanging in the air) roots of the plants, while the Hydroponics farm dips these roots in stagnant (not moving) mixture of water and nutrients.
Winners: Audry, Isaac, Crystal Toh and Clarice!

The Importance of Breakfast
Here is something fun to do in the mornings - on the weekend maybe? or before school? Anytime is cooking time!
Having breakfast is important - it's not known as the most important meal of the day for nothing! We know that our digestive system breaks down food into simpler substances. These substances are, as we know, called glucose (yes, the same simple sugar that is produced by plants through photosynthesis). This glucose is needed by the brain to work. If you don't have enough glucose in your body, your body needs to work harder to turn your fats or carbohydrates (nutrients found in yesterday's rice dinner) into fuel for your brain. So you will feel tired and won't learn as well. You might also faint from the hunger.
Here's a simple recipe you can try in the mornings for breakfast. If you have no time in the mornings, you can always cook the night before and heat them up before you go to school. Remember: Always ask an adult to help you during cooking, DO NOT OPERATE THE STOVE ON YOUR OWN.
Easy French Toast Sticks (Halal)
INGREDIENTS:
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 4 slices bread, each cut, lengthwise, into 4 pieces
- Sugar
- Cinnamon
- Maple syrup
PREPARATION:
Melt butter in skillet. Mix eggs, milk and vanilla in bowl. Beat well, soak slices of bread. Brown the soaked bread in skillet. Sprinkle with a little sugar and cinnamon and serve with maple syrup.posted - 9:37 AM

Silver Star Question
Another Silver Star Question! The previous one was the one on the squid. This one is on Social Studies, and if you can answer the following question correctly, you will get a silver star!
Question: What is the difference between an Aeroponics and Hydroponics farm?
Clue: Both farms grow vegetables without soil but... how do they grow these vegetables?
Good Luck!

Do Squids Have Bones?
This question posed to the class seemed to stump many of us. Though some of us did get it half-right: Squid do indeed have NO bones. But what do they have then? Surely they are not as soft or squishy as the jelly fish. Well here's the answer!
Squids fall under the same family as the mollusks - like oysters, scallops and snails. They have shells instead of bones. But the squid has no shell, you say! Well, the shell is there, just not where we can see it. Squid shells are on the inside, and so we do call it endoskeletons (a skeleton on the inside of the body). BUT these shells are not made of bones, they are merely made of calcium. These squid 'bones' are known as cuttlebone and are sold in many pet shops to provide calcium to birds to stay healthy.
Sharks are another animal which has some bone-confusion. It is a vertebrate (it has a backbone) but it's bones are not classified as bones. They are made of cartiledge, which is softer and flexible. You can find cartiledge in the small bones in our ear and in our noses.

All About Water Babies
I keep seeing you guys bring these things called 'water babies' to class. It seemed like just a strange new fad to me, but many of you said that they would 'die' if you left them out of water and your 'babies' would 'reproduce' when they got big.
I was very curious about how this worked, so I went online and checked them out. Boy, did I find out all about how these 'water babies' worked.
'Water babies' or water crystal jellies are also known as Smelly Jelly - I think because the water smells bad (I should know, I opened one of my student's water baby container and ugh - stinky!). These 'babies' are actually water-absorbing polymers (types of plastics) that are able to absorb 300 times their weight in water.
They are used in areas with drought (long periods without rain) or in the summer months. Gardeners place these 'water babies' on the soil to release water to the plant slowly, thus keeping the plant alive. This way, they don't need to waste water by spraying it over the plants to moisten the soil. This reduces the amout of time taken to water plants by as much as 80%.
And these 'water babies' do not split or reproduce in any way. Haha, sorry to burst your bubble. Instead, they turn almost transparent and look ghostly in the water.
I don't mind if you want to keep these gardening tools as pets, but I won't allow anyone selling them, buying them or taking them out during class, so please help by not doing these things. Keep them in your bag if you wish to bring them to school. Otherwise, enjoy your 'babies' ^_^

Update - 3-8 Comic Club
Haha yes, I haven't updated the blog in ages... but it IS still in use so check back here often. I'll be uploading homework notices here everyday from now on, so you have no excuse not to get it done, guys...
Hope you like the new design featuring Cloud Strife from FFVII Advent Children. I can't find posters, apparently the show is too old so no one prints the posters anymore, but I'm still trying my best.

Comic Recommendation!!
Title: The Adventures of Asterix and Obelix
Recommended by: Miss Kristen
Review:
I've loved this comic series since I was seven years old. The series is about a Gaulish warrior named Asterix, his best friend Obelix, and their dog Dogmatix. Together, with the help of a magic potion which gives super-human strength, they battle the Romans who have conquered Gaul (which is the old Roman name for France). They face many enemies and meet many new friends, who are all fighting against the Roman Conquerors too.
The story is very interesting and the characters are very funny, as Asterix and Obelix sometimes argue in hilarious ways. And you get to see them beat up Romans too, haha.
Where to get it: S.A.P.S. Library, Reference Section
